Frequently asked questions
What is Lorem Ipsum and why do designers use it?
Lorem Ipsum is placeholder text derived from scrambled passages of Cicero’s “De Finibus Bonorum et Malorum” (45 BC). Designers use it because it has a natural distribution of word lengths and looks like readable Latin — letting clients judge layout and typography without being distracted by actual content.
Where does “Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet” come from?
It comes from the opening of a passage written over 2,000 years ago: “Neque porro quisquam est qui dolorem ipsum quia dolor sit amet, consectetur, adipisci velit…” — roughly, “Nor is there anyone who loves or pursues pain for its own sake.” Richard McClintock, a Latin professor, identified the source in the 1980s.
Is using Lorem Ipsum bad for SEO?
Placeholder text should never ship to production. Search engines may see duplicated Lorem Ipsum content on thousands of sites and judge your pages as thin or duplicated. Use it only for design mockups and replace it with real content before publishing.
