Grade Calculator
Two tools in one: convert a test score into a percentage and letter grade, and work out what score you need on the final to reach your target grade.

What do I need on my final?
Frequently asked questions
How is a test grade percentage calculated?
Divide the points you earned by the total points possible, then multiply by 100. Scoring 42 out of 50 gives 42 ÷ 50 × 100 = 84%. This calculator also converts the percentage to a typical US letter grade.
How do I calculate what I need on my final exam?
Use the weighted formula: Required = (Target − Current × CurrentWeight) ÷ FinalWeight. For example, if you have an 84% worth 70% of the grade and want 90% overall, you need (90 − 84×0.7) ÷ 0.3 = 104% on the final — in other words, impossible without extra credit. Check before you cram.
Are letter grade cutoffs the same everywhere?
No. The common US scale (90/80/70/60 for A/B/C/D) is used here, but many schools use plus/minus grades with 93% for an A, or different scales entirely. UK universities classify degrees at 70/60/50, which looks radically different from US grading. Always check your institution’s rubric.
