Body Fat Calculator
Estimate body fat % with the US Navy tape method — height, neck and waist (and hip for women). Switch between cm and inches.
Estimate only — not a medical diagnosis. For a precise measurement use DEXA, calipers or hydrostatic weighing.
Frequently asked questions
What method does this calculator use?
It uses the US Navy circumference method, which estimates body fat from height plus neck and waist (and hip, for women) measurements. It is a quick field estimate, not a clinical measurement like DEXA or hydrostatic weighing.
How accurate is the tape-measure method?
For most people it is within about ±3–4% of a gold-standard measurement when taken carefully. Results are sensitive to exactly where the tape is placed, so measure consistently and snug but not compressing the skin.
Why does the female formula need hip measurement?
Women store more fat around the hips and thighs, so including hip circumference improves the estimate. The male formula uses only waist and neck because fat distribution differs.
